TOKYO. Il vulcano Shindake, nell'isola di Kuchinoerabu, si è risvegliato dopo 34 anni con un'eruzione "esplosiva" e spettacolare che, pur non avendo causato vittime o feriti, ha lanciato verso il cielo una colonna di fumo e cenere. Sono circa 140 gli abitanti dell'isola della prefettura di Kagoshima, nell'estremo sud del Giappone, mentre la Jma (Japan Meterological Agency) ha alzato l'allerta a quota 5, il massimo livello, e sollecitato l'evacuazione. Il monte Shindake è a 650 metri sul livello del mare e a 100 km dall'isola di Kyushu. L'eruzione ha causato un pennacchio di cenere nera alto più di 9 km sopra il cratere e un flusso piroclastico verso la costa, ha riferito la Jma. L'ultimo bollettino ufficiale, ad ogni modo, ha escluso vittime o feriti, secondo gli aggiornamenti degli uffici della città locale di Yakushima. L'avviso di evacuazione si lega al grado di allerta di 5, il più alto possibile, in rialzo da quota 3 che impone limiti alla scalata del vulcano. L'Ufficio del primo ministro a Tokyo ha istituito un team di emergenza per la gestione della crisi e la guardia costiera giapponese ha inviato una propria unità nella zona. Il premier Shinzo Abe ha dato le disposizioni per garantire la sicurezza dei residenti dell'isola, ha riferito il portavoce del governo, Yoshihide Suga. I primi segnali di risveglio del vulcano Shindake sono dello scorso 3 agosto, con l'evacuazione precauzionale di 87 persone, dopo un lungo riposo di 34 anni. Secondo gli esperti, diversi elementi lasciano ipotizzare un'eruzione relativamente grande e prolungata.
