FERGUSON. Ancora un giovane nero ucciso dalla polizia negli Stati Uniti, a pochi chilometri dalla cittadina di Ferguson dove il 9 agosto scorso un altro afroamericano, Michael Brown, venne freddato dagli agenti e la cui morte scatenò un'ondata di proteste senza precedenti sui metodi adottati dalle forze dell'ordine.  Secondo una prima ricostruzione degli agenti della contea di St Louis in  Missouri, la notte scorsa, un poliziotto ha aperto il fuoco uccidendo un giovane di 18 anni, identificato con il nome di Antonio Martin, dopo che quest'ultimo gli aveva puntato contro una pistola. «Il poliziotto - scrivono i media locali - stava effettuando un controllo di routine» ad una stazione di benzina poco prima della mezzanotte quando ha notato due uomini vicino all'area di servizio. L'agente è sceso dalla sua macchina e dopo essersi avvicinato ai due giovani si è visto puntare contro una pistola. A quel punto il poliziotto ha aperto il fuoco «temendo per la sua vita» uccidendo sul colpo Antonio Martin. Il secondo uomo invece si sarebbe dato alla fuga. Secondo quanto scrive il St. Louis Post Dispatch - quotidiano locale - i detective avrebbero ritrovato sul luogo della sparatoria l'arma del 18enne mentre il corpo della vittima sarebbe rimasto per quasi due ore sull'asfalto prima di essere preso in consegna dalle autorità. La vittima si trovava con la sua fidanzata quando si è verificata la sparatoria. La ragazza però al momento non avrebbe rilasciato dichiarazioni ai reporter.  Poco dopo la mezzanotte una folla di un centinaio di persone si è radunata nella stazione di benzina transennata. Stando al New York Times, diverse manifestanti «inferociti hanno iniziato ad urlare slogan contro le forze dell'ordine che sono giunte in massa, alcuni in tenuta antisommossa». Gli inquirenti stanno cercando di comprendere la reale dinamica dei fatti. La stazione di servizio è dotata di telecamere di sicurezza. Ha difeso l'operato della polizia il sindaco di Berkeley, nella cui giurisdizione ricade l'omicidio di un ragazzo nero avvenuto due giorni fa vicino Ferguson, in Missouri, ad opera di un agente bianco. Lo riferisce il Los Angels Times online. Fiancheggiato da agenti neri, Theodore Hoskins, anche lui nero, ha fatto le sue condoglianze alla famiglia di Antonio Martin, ed ha aggiunto che a suo parere l'ufficiale «potrebbe aver salvato la sua vita» sparando, mentre stava cadendo a terra, al diciottenne armato. La polizia ha diffuso i filmati da tre diverse angolature in cui il ragazzo sembra puntare l'arma conto l'agente che poi fa fuoco. A differenza di Ferguson, teatro di un episodio analogo all'inizio di agosto, Berkeley ha un capo della polizia nero e sono in prevalenza neri i responsabili del governo locale.
