Maureen O'Hara, l'attrice irlandese la cui fama e' legata in gran parte al film di John Ford "Com'era verde la mia valle" del 1941, e' morta nella sua casa di Boise, in Idaho, all'eta' di 95 anni. Ad annunciare la scomparsa il suo vecchio manager Johnny Nicoletti. O'Hara, divenuta un'icona di Hollywod con la sua inconfondibile chioma rossa, e' stata protagonista di tantissimi film e viene ricordata anche per le sue indimenticabili interpretazioni al fianco di John Wayne. Star di tanti classici del cinema da Il Cigno Nero con Tyron Power a Simbad il Marinaio con Douglas Fairbanks jr, la O'Hara aveva ricevuto nel febbraio scorso l'Oscar alla carriera. Nata a Dublino nel 1920, cantante lirica mancata, aveva cominciato a recitare giovanissima con la compagnia dell'Abbey Theatre all'Ireland's National Theatre di Dublino. Il debutto al cinema nel 1938 con due film minori a cui seguì nel 1939 La taverna della Giamaica, diretto da Hitchcock e poi in successione tantissimi ruoli, tra cui quello di Esmeralda, (la bella de La bella e la bestia) in Notre Dame di William Dieterle con Charle Laughton nei panni di Quasimodo, il campanaro gobbo. La sua filmografia è lunghissima. Ha lavorato molto con John Wayne e recitato in molti film western. E' stata spesso diretta da John Ford, da Il miracolo della 34esima strada (1947) a Accadde un'estate (1965). Il suo ultimo film, Cara mamma mi sposo di Chris Columbus, è del 1991. Il suo nome è scritto fra le celebrità della Hollywood Walk of Fame
